"North Atlantic Southern Part - 20th
April"
Only 217nm to go! We broke our 24hr record
again, it is now 155nm! So we are feeling very pleased with Whisper and
ourselves. The ocean continued to bubble and boil all through the
night but it was no problem for Whisper, she just buried her nose in and pushed
her way through any waves in her way sending the spray up on both sides of her
bow creating a wall of water which hurtled down the deck over the coach
roof and spray hood. We had to keep the hatch closed and one wash board
in place to avoid getting sea water down below. Needless to say with our
electronics working away we kept watch from below, bravely sticking our heads
out every 10 minutes or so to check that all was well and learning to duck
pretty quickly.
This morning saw the ocean settled for a
while, the wind had changed to SE and the swell was coming at us on our
quarter which made moving about below less of
a challenge. However, since providing boiled eggs for lunch
(what a fiasco that proved to be as we fought to keep hold of our hot eggs and
everything else, whilst becoming hysterical with laughter, I only made them
because it was calm!), the wind has strengthened back to an easterly
creating plenty of white horses and the swell is back on our beam once
again. We are still flying along with one reef in the main and the No.2
Genoa, keeping our course whilst surrounded by the royal blue of the ocean
and clear blue skies, the conditions are ideal.
We have heard two more ghost ships picking up
our position on their radar but again we have not seen them, it is comforting to
know that they are over 32nm away, as we cannot pick them up on the
AIS.
