After our turbulent Thames Estuary crossing on
Monday, we decided to recuperate in Ramsgate on Tuesday. The winds were
still strong and to quote our skipper, "after all we are on holiday, so there is
no rush". He apparently had forgotten his words when he woke me up
this morning at 3am! We were on our way by 4am, the forecast was good and
the tides were right to get us past Dover and round the corner during
slack waters. We had our first sightings of foreign lands as we headed
towards Dover dodging various ferries on the way. We set our sails
just before Dover, the sun came out and a gentle breeze set us on an ideal
course for Dungeness.
The wind died off Bexhill-on-Sea, so we
decided to motor and keep our course to Beachy Head. As the weather is
favourable we will press on for Brighton Marina and hang up our life jackets for
the night.
