After a bit of a wander and a few jobs a quick lunch was followed by an early afternoon departure for Reykjavik. The “helpful” arrows on the cliffs guided us unnecessarily through the narrow harbour entrance and then out to sea. A visit by a small pod of Orcas provided some light entertainment and then it was back to chugging our way westwards. Mike had decided that 3 x midnight to 4 am watches in a row was enough for us so Nigel and Alastair got that one this time. As midnight approached we were close enough to the Reykjanes Peninsula to see smoke from several vents on the most recent eruption sitting beautifully beneath a not bad sun set. Then to bed and now we’re in the fleshpots of Reykjavik; one time capitol of discos/nightclubs in Europe. I can’t remember where Jen has put my flares, paisley shirts and floral ties so I guess I won’t be going out much.

We arrived here pretty early – 6ish if you count being able to see the town or 7ish if you count being in the harbour. A rigging job for Nigel and Mike, and a few other bits and pieces needed doing. Al and I had a fruitless wander around town trying to find an LED light fitting, then back to the traditional fish and chip shop for lunch. An afternoon kip followed and then the bowser arrived for us to refuel. A fine Mike produced curry and quite a lot of alcohol was consumed in the evening.

Tuesday 16th

A nice lie in, bacon butties for breakfast, a chat with Robin N-J, (who had just returned from whence we goeth, but with no engine), and then a tourist bimble and lunch out again. There’s really not much to do in Reykjavik if you’re not into being a tourist although the penis museum got a mention. I’ve managed to sort the card reader storage issue on my camera with a bit of a cumbersome workaround so now for cuppa and a kip and then it’s out to unload the bank account again for dinner.
