14:44.605N 061:10.676W Stopped here for the night. An extremely attractive place lying under the Mt Pelle Volcano. This was once called the Paris of the Caribbean because of all the rich plantations. However, in 1902 the volcano erupted and killed 29000 people plus destroying all the crops. It has now recovered somewhat but the wrecked buildings show an extremely rich past. The lushness of the countryside was incredible with sugar cane and bananas growing on every slope. We also found a great little supermarket and decided to stock up (again) on top quality French wine and bread as we know there's not much in Dominica. Certainly the prices here are amazing with Grand Cru going for 6 Euros!!! The boat is starting to make complaining noises!!
