Sailing upwind is
equivalent to riding a bike up hill, likewise going down hill on a bike is like
sailing with the wind on or behind the beam. We are still going up hill, this
time because we are told westerly winds are to be found to the north. So
yet more close hauled. Fortunately the wind is a steady comparatively
comfortable 20knts without the rain squalls and gusts of before and the grey wet
mat of cloud has broken to give sunshine: things are looking up although
the real turning point will be consistent westerlies. Westerlies would alow
us to sail directly for the Azores, off the wind and at a good speed- all firsts
for this leg- and in more comfort. Roll
on!
