Camarinas and Biscay

The weather continued to be difficult as the low
over Iberia persisted. We cancelled our plans to sail to La Coruna to meet
Nicholas Trefusis and asked him instead to come to Camarinas. We went for a walk
out to the headland to see the lighthouse. It started as a lovely cliff top walk
in the sun
 and we wondered why we had not sailed to La Coruna.
But then conditions deteriorated.
We walked past a large fish farm, each of these
shapes being a large fish tank
 and finally arrived at the lighthouse
 That was about the best view of it as it was deep
in fog
  with a howling wind that kept the wind farm
turbines turning and drumming--an awful noise
 the maps showing the wrecks off Cape Vilano
persuaded us that we had made the right decision to keep our feet on dry
land!
 We returned to the marina where all was calm and a
boat had just been lifted out after two years in the water. The mussel growth
was amazing. All round the headland on our walk we could see people gathering
mussels on the rocks below-----a big business.
  We collected Nicholas Trefusis at the airport and
he joined Marita for the Biscay crossing but not before we celebrated Corinne's
birthday with champagne, cake and an excellent lunch at a local
restaurant
  and then we were ready to depart at 0700 the
following morning
 The passage was not easy and after two days at sea
we had made a northing of about 80 miles---we thought we would never get away
from the Spanish coast. Sailing in gloomy conditions is never fun
 but things improved and we passed through the Raz
de Sein six days later in a flat calm
 and lovely sunshine
