Photographs of La Gomera:.
1. The Parador---A secluded hotel above the town
with lovely rooms, swimming pool and gardens. The crew nearly jumped ship
here!
2. General view of National
Park 3. Historic town of Arure---no sun from November to
February as it is overshadowed by a large mountain!
4. Case Eugenia---the place where we had lunch. We
sat at long tables, a set menu of Gofio, bean stew by another name, which
originated from the Spanish war when everyone was hungry-----you need to be to
eat it! The air temperature here was 12.5 degrees C---the coldest since
Biscay..
5. View of town and marina from the hills
above
6. The town beach--- water 24 degrees
today!!! 7. View of Valle Gran Rey 8. San Sebastian town
The top of the island is a National Park and is
maintained to a very high standard. The roads are good and even the crash
barriers are metal covered in wood so that they do not look out of place---EU
funded of course. There are a lot of walks and the serious walkers carry 12 foot
poles with a sharp metal spike on the end which they use to help jump down
the sides of the hills rather like a pole vaulter in reverse. A lovely island
that is not full of trippers-----they arrive on the ferries but go home in
the evening!
