24:04.688N 076:23.14W Steve's Birthday and what a lovely day it was, warm, sunny and a lovely sail in the shallow turquoise water of the Exuma bank up to Little Bay near Blackpoint. ![]() Once again we have weather heading our way, this time it's rain and thunderstorms followed a few days later by strong easterly winds and potentially more rain, thunder and lightening. the worst of the thunderstorms and rain are predicted for Cat Island - another reason we chose to miss it out but most places will get some. Little bay has a nice sandy bottom and isn’t nearly as crowded as Blockpoint which has 40+ boats in it, here there were only 2 other boats when we arrived so we could choose where to anchor and found a nice spot in just over 3 meters water close enough to the shore for when the easterlies arrive but with room to swing round if there are any wind shifts or squalls with the thunderstorms. Once settled we went for a snorkel, unfortunately there weren’t many fish to see but it was good to be in the water. As predicted the rain, thunder and lightening arrived at about midnight, we had quite a lightening display of mainly sheet lightening, thankfully it was mostly far enough way to light the sky up but not to be of any real concern to us and although it did rain somewhat heavily there was little wind involved so after getting up to make sure all was ok and have a cup of tea we went back to bed. We decided to go for a walk as we haven’t really left the boat to go anywhere except to the beach for sundowners or shopping for ages and headed into Blackpoint about 3km away, its not the most picturesque walk we’ve had but it was good to get some exercise, on the way back we detoured to an Ocean side beach, sadly like most others there was a lot of rubbish and debris at the high water mark! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We met a British couple Jillian and Bryn on Fly the Coop and had a lovely evening or 2 on their boat as well as walking into town with them. The day before my birthday was miserable weather so I decided to treat myself for my birthday and what I really wanted was croissants for breakfast so I googled a recipe which had a video as well as the words and decided it wasn’t so different from making puff pastry and so set about making the dough, it's important not to let it get warm so it took a while putting it in fridge to cool or rest and it advised to rest overnight in fridge, so on my birthday I made 4 croissants and 4 pan au chocolat! I have to say i was pretty impressed with myself - they not only looked and smelt good but they tasted perfect 🤩 and of course I shared them with Steve. ![]() We were also treated to supper on Bryn and Jillian's which was fantastic and rounded off my birthday perfectly. ![]() Now it's time to move on and head north. |
