Signing off
from the blog today so it didn't last long and no intrepid adventures have been
related.
Despite being optimistic that a weather wind would
be available to us to leave on Thursday we have decided to decline the
opportunity of sailing to Antigua. We are arranging to have Allegria hauled out
for the winter and will return to the UK. There is probably only one thing worse
than wintering in the UK and that would be wintering on a boat in
Virginia.
Reasoning behind all this is basically the
uncertainty. The weather at this time of year (we are now too late in the
season) is changing so rapidly with repeated lows and fronts passing through.
Although leaving on Thursday should have given us an acceptable crossing of the
Gulf Stream we were likely to be faced with a period of gale force winds, from
an unfavourable direction. Later there would have been a very large area of
calms (that should have been ok). So I was concerned about too much wind, too
little wind, not sure we could motor that far. Perhaps I'm just a wimp and we
have been stuck here too long!
Once we have sorted Allegria and a flight we will
be back in the UK.
