Arrived in Flores about 0545 this morning and have
tied up at a rather small pontoon in the little marina. There is a
collection of hard used looking boats here, not at all like the spit and polish
on view in Nanny Cay.
As expected yesterday the wind came round, first
NE, then E then S, so we had our first real experience of beating to
windward against quite lumpy seas as the wind came against the previous run
of the swell. The only moment of drama was when the Sea Me active radar
reflector shook loose from its mount on the spreader and fell of, dangling from
its cable. I had to climb the mast armed with duck tape to try to secure
it to something.
The weather is not at all what I had envisaged for
the summer solstice in these latitudes, grey overcast, alternating between
drizzle and downpour. This is expected to last until after the weekend,
with high winds getting up, so we will stay put for a bit.
Signing off
Martin
