We took very few photographs of Salvador. It’s got shopping malls and
skyscrapers and is generally a big city.
![]() View of the fairly wealthy Vitoria district from the sea. Barra, where
almost all the up-market shops are is just off the right of the photo.
![]() View towards the ferry terminal with the commercial port to the right of
the picture and the municipal yacht station on the left. Photo taken from a
restaurant/bar while celebrating having negotiated the police, customs and port
authorities. It’s on the first floor of the old slave market which is now a
giant tourist tat market (we think cruise ships must call here: locals can’t
possibly consume this quantity of Chinese made straw hats and friendship
bracelets).
![]() Daniel who undertook to clean the hull and prop. We didn’t realise that
he’d just jump in and get cracking immediately!
![]() The anodes on the folding prop also needed changing, all part of the
deal.
![]() For our part we had the fuel pipes to fix. Table up again, and fuel tank
opened up once 120 litres of fuel had been pumped out into our jerry cans
![]() Frankenstein fuel extractor/polisher made from bits in the spares box. A
Racor primary filter and a Facet electric pump. But it worked really well.
![]() The tank was spotless however and the only foreign object we found was this
plug of silicone sealant which had jammed up the generator’s fuel inlet pipe. 4
cm long x 5 mm diameter: scarcely microscopic.
![]() All the time we were serenaded by this fellow. He looks like a cross
between a wood-pecker and a canary and is louder than either. There were monkeys
in the marina grounds as well, but too shy for us to get a
photo. |
