Friday. Rebeira proved to be a useful marina stop for the usual water,
showers, shop etc. But while watering ship we inadvertently allowed a
winch handle to slip over the side into 6m of water. Towards LW (4.5m),
Chris did some valiant free diving in attempt to retrieve it, but was
defeated by the weed growth on the bottom. However, just as we were
resigned to having to accept the handle's loss, a single-crew diving
dory nosed its way back into the marina. With the aid of the friendly
marina staff we managed to explain the situation to the dory diver; in
no time at all he had his fins on and was under the boat. 30 seconds
later: one recovered winch handle! Our tapas ashore seemed even more
delightful in the wake of this success. Sorry about the lack of phots
of this escapade – but we were more interested in the safety of our
swimmers.
