After a thoroughly enjoyable day and evening ashore
in Falmouth - including a superb dinner - the plan for the following morning -
ie today - was for Sarah and Anne to travel together by car to Dorset,
while Tom, Alan, Hugh Ridgway and Tim Hughes sailed the boat for the first leg
up the coast to Dartmouth. The vessel outboard was content to move at
0600, but commented as we stepped ashore in high spirits for our evening out
that it would not surprise them if we delayed our departure to the following
tide!
However, true to form we were ready to go at the
agreed hour, and as soon as we had rounded St Anthony's Head we set the
full main and staysail to take advantage of the West 5 wind. This gave us
about 7kts through the water, and with the easterly setting tide progress was
good. The Eddystone Light came and went, and we rounded Start Point before
the tide turned foul at 1430, making Dartmouth as planned by 1600 - a distance
of 66 miles.
Tomorrow we plan another 0600 departure, again to
make best advantage of the tides, and if all goes well will be alongside Poole
Yacht Club - AQUILA's home - by around 1700.
