We got here at midnight. What an interesting
24 hours. Last night we were going southwards towards Cabo de Gata with
anchoring in mind. However, a fresh breeze came up as we neared the coast and we
then picked up 2kt of current in our favour too. So we pressed on (not
being one to waste good conditions - a rare thing in the Med).
We did some 9kt hours in good conditions and
rounded Cabo de Gata in a shower - the thunderstorm was behind us. We had
good winds until 0500 ish when the wind duly died and we motored along towards
Gibraltar. All was well until just after 9am when I looked at the water
ahead and noticed a strange pattern - looked like a very strong current agains
the wind. It was strong - up to 3 kt in places and against us! Needless to
say we spent the rest of the day and most of our fuel fighting it. Hence
we went to Fuengirola and anchored in the bay.
Julie will get the bus to Malaga airport from here
tonight and I will get some fuel!
