Quite llonga and a bit fatta than some we've been
in. This is where we left from for our Mallorcan Odyssey and we arrived back
here at dusk last night having had a long day motoring.
It was my birthday yesterday and Julie did me proud
with a card and the promise of a present - actually I badly need a new pair of
boat shoes as my $16 ones are looking a bit shabby. We also caught a fis -
well almost. We were sailing along at a fine 6kt between Mallorca and
Ibiza and my eyelids were just starting to drop when zaziiiiiiinnnnngggg and all
the line started to go from the fishing rod. I leapt across the cockpit, julie
took the helm and hove us to - he (she) made another run for it and snapped the
80lb line. Oh well, at last 2 lures we know of work now!
We arrived here lateaswe knew the cove and it had
good shelter from the prevailing wind. However, in the middle of the night
the wind got up and veered straight down the cove. So as we type this, we are
anchored in 20kt of wind and 1-2 m seas as things build up outside. We are
watching a few hardy sould going up and down the coast - we're not sure where to
as there is no shelter on this coast from this wind direction. They might
be going to Formentera (we will tomorrow as we have booked a mooring for 2
nights).
So we sit here bouncing up and down we are thankful
for the expensive Rocna anchor I decided to buy. It has always set in its
own length and its now holding us firm. We also have a bridle attached to
the chain to keep us from sailing around the anchorage as some catamarans seem
to do. It works very well and is simple to deploy and free. It also gives a
great indication of the angle of the chain since its in thick white nylon
anchorplait and you can see it disappear into the depths in most
places.
We chatted to our neighbour a few minutes ago and
he may come over for a cup of tea later this afternoon. In the mean time we'll
just read and sit here rocking (which is better than he is - he is rocking and
rolling). It could be a long day!
