Laggan Locks

57:1.657N 4:49.482W Sunday 18th July We arranged for transit of Moy bridge (45 mins along the canal from Banavie) at just after 0900, but there were some delays so we had to stooge for a while. We saw a dipper fliting among the rocks of the canal bank on the way. A little further on the first of the two locks at Gairlochy was open at both ends so we only had one lock to contend with. We went in alongside a large barge, with an old converted fishing boat - quite a squeeze but all fine. Then we motored (no useable wind again!) the length of Loch Lochy. The low cloud lifted enough for us to see Ben Nevis (still had snow on the top) astern. Then into the diminutive Ceann Loch and through the two locks at Laggan. Again these were operated as a single lock. Moored up in the canal above the lock. Went for a walk in the afternoon and had a drink at the Eagle - an old barge converted into a floating bar/restaurant. |
