We sailed overnight from Puerto Plata down the east side of the Dominican Republic into Samana Bay and went to the Marina da Bahia at Santa Barbara da Samana. We had heard good reports of a great marina with a fabulous 5 star hotel, 5 pools and various restaurants. We were not disappointed, only $1 per foot and good service and facilities and no roll from the North Atlantic swell, unlike Ocean World.

Suzanne and I booked into the spa and had a couple of massages, we lounged by the pool and did the usual holiday maker stuff, had a meal where we used Google to translate the menu from Spanish as no one spoke any English. We stayed for 2 nights and then left for the 2 day sail to the Spanish Virgin Islands, as we all felt Puerto Rico didn’t look as attractive and we weren’t sure of David and Nicky’s visa status as they only had an ESTA where Suzanne and I both have 10 year B2 visas and can enter US Territory on a private yacht.
