So we have had our first experience through the canal! We went through on Eudora – Jevan and Tracey’s boat. They are a kiwi couple who we have been sailing with since Aruba. We had a great time line handling for them. Tracey looked after us so well and Jevan was a fantastic captain who took the whole thing in his stride. We are looking forward to doing it in our own boat soon.
We decided to leave Sold the Farm in Linton at the marina while we went through the canal. We are back now doing lots of jobs and getting the boat ready slowly. We have been trying to figure out where we are going to store all our provisions, so I was surprised to find a fully sealed storage box under the table. It had all been sealed up and was a nice surprise to find so much extra useful space.
We have had a chance to do some exploring around the area in the evenings. This has included discovering the ‘mangrove love tunnel’ which is a small waterway over to the near by marina. We went one evening to go and check it out and were very pleasantly surprised to find a lovely little French restaurant – in the boat yard! The food was fantastic and we have already eaten there 3 times since the initial finding!
We have also been lucky enough to see monkeys from the boat and some sloths in the mangroves! What a crazy place it is!
We will do a few more jobs and then get our spray hood made in Portobello.
