19:09.5S 146:51.2E - Magnetic Island

Written By George and Freddie: Magnetic Island As we approached Magnetic Island it looked beautiful – the mix of green and rock. That evening we ate at a lovely restaurant in the marina with the crew of Infinity, Freddie and I left early as
listening to the adults was quite a lot of effort. The following morning we went to a restaurant for breakfast called Scallywags. To get there we all rented purple electric scooters which was really good fun. Freddie decided to get the Mega-Breaky which turned
out to be a mountain and was unable to finish it. We then went swimming in a huge pool that felt about minus fifty degrees but we still had a blast.
Dad went in search of a rental car and came back with the last remaining rental car on the island – a completely open top, 35 year old Suzuki Jimny. We clambered into the crammed backseats and
drove off. Our first stop was a beach called Florence Bay Beach. The walk there was very steep before going down on to the lovely open people free beach. We were looking for Batfish in the water, but unfortunately saw none. We did have great fun in the water
breaching, pretending to be whales – like the many whales we have seen in the last few weeks. We headed back to the car and drove to an animal sanctuary. We were confused when some slop looking stuff was put on our hands. Suddenly a bunch of tiny parrot looking
things flew all over us and began to eat the slop. We were worried that a large Kookaburra with a huge beak was going to fly onto our arms, but it was all very fun. After that we went to a large stony area by Geoffrey Bay with food to feed wild Rock Wallabies. There were many and they were so small and cute. They were very interested in the food and were
eating it out of peoples hands. We tried it and they ran away as if we were wearing Wallaby repellent. Instead we threw the food which went well. The Rock Wallabies only come out in the evening when it is cool. That evening we went to Magnetic Island Brewery with the crew of Black Lion – Ed and Adam – and ate Hot Dogs. We had a blast and then we decided to go mad. We went Toad Racing in Arcadia. Basically
eight Toads were put in a small white circle inside another huge circle and the first one out of both circles won. Unfortunately the one we bet on decided not the move at all. The Toad Racing has been running for 10 or more years every Wednesday evening at
8pm. We played pool and had a great night. The next day we went for a long drive in search of wild Koalas. The Suzuki drove like an animal though water and the rough terrain. It felt like a safari, except that we found no Koalas. The rest of the day was relaxing,
Freddie and I entered the cold pool again and froze but had fun. Dad sadly returned the Suzuki and went food shopping. He came home with a surprise for dinner, Kangaroo burgers…. I felt like throwing up thinking about that but Freddie was very excited. That
evening we ate them off the barbeque and dare I say, they didn’t taste too bad. The next morning we set sail for Orpheus Island. Goodbye Magnetic Island and thank you for giving us so much fun.
