2407.541N 01826.260W (Hi Chris,)
Really tricky since around mid afternoon
yesterday.
Typically we have been pretty light and between 045
and 130, with windspeed right down to 5KNTS (which was a total drifter for us
with J3). Maximum we have seen is our current strength which
is:
Direction: 092
Strength: 12 - 13 knts
Boatspeed: 9
Currently sailing on a heading around 214 (cant
really get low enough to get back to rhumb) with the A3 up (peeled to A3 at 0130
- having been under J3 since 1530 due to both strength and direction
[principally direction which was then 126]).
Now it is pretty clear, with no cloud, we believe
we are approximately 70 miles east of original rhumb line to cape verde waypoint
(i.e.20N, 23W).
In short we have not made much progress...... since
yesterday afternoon at least.
I guess the question is when we can start to expect
an increase? NE trades more consistently? and if the plan remains to be to push
on to way point? Are we still better east of the rhumb line - we have been
really struggling to get west as it means a big gybe with no south (and we
believe that trades will ultimatley work better further south).
Positions of rest of fleet sent tp us were
incorrect we believe (nonsence) so we have no idea where rest of fleet is (we
think it logged engine time for us, which is rubbish) and recorded our position
completely wrong versus what we gave them - do you have any more accurate
information on that? You can see ours from blog site at:
All the best,
Duncan
