Those of you reading in the UK will be delighted to
know that the weather in the Azores has been rather worse than you have been
experiencing for the last few weeks. This has not, however , been a bar to
getting out and about on Faial. It would appear that things are about to change
and that the much fabled 'Azores high pressure system ' may actually form soon.
We haven't made it off Faial yet but have trips planned to Sao Jorge, Pico,
Flores and Terceira over the next week or so. Walking and eating seem to be the
favoured activities and this has induced a degree of skeletal complaint
from some members of the group who nay have become a little inactive during
longer sea passages.
These are some of the most welcoming islands we
have visited with locals stopping to chat which fills an otherwise slow and
unbothered existence. Food is fantastic and plentiful in the supermarket (note
not plural) and restaurants. We found a seafood buffet the other night in a
restaurant for £5 per head. The 'all you can eat' element took great advantage
and were unable to take a deep breath for some hours afterwards (let alone
walk).
Faial in the background, CB happy to
arrive!

Looks like it could do with a spot of rain but
infact it just has. The arrid look is due to recent volcanic activity on this
ever growing island. The rest of it is very green and lush. Sorry about Andrew's
headgear - we've tried.

John Paul Getty's yacht has just pulled in so
better smarten up a bit incase they are giving alms for the
poor.
