This will not be the fastest ARC ever by any means -
well certainly in our class anyway. Whilst we receive a position report every
day it is difficult to see where we are in relation to others but we do know
that we have been very slow even though we have now sped up in the trades
towards St Lucia. So today we decided to revisit using our new Blue Water Sail
(BWS) but hoisting it without the broken furler gear. So following a quiet - and
slow night under full main and poled genoa we spent a couple of hours setting up
the sail, dropping current sails and hoisting BWS. Amazingly - because it is
quite complex all went to plan and the new sail went up first time and set well
straight away. We are now hopeful that we will make the ARC final party on 16th!
Seriously, we believe that with the weather we have approaching us we will speed
up considerably over the next few days and our eta will continue to improve.
More of that in later blogs as we still have a (very) long way to go - 1731 (out
of 2850) miles as I am typing. Not quite half way
On the fishing front the fish are winning - 2 lures to
nil at the moment but we don't quite need the food - yet........but watch this
space (we do have enough)
What do we wear? It is warm - indeed hot down below when
the boat is closed up for night sailing - and we now live in t-shirts and
shorts/swimmers all the time - even on deck on a night watch and sleeping at
night in light pj's on top of sleeping bags
We have hopefully now fixed a watermaker issue that we
encountered yesterday and are refilling tanks now - showers will be back on the
menu tomorrow
