Sorry for the delayed communication. It was a very trying day yesterday.
Winds started blowing well over 25 knots, we decided to take the main sail down
and we tried and we tried and we tried. It would not budge. We zoomed the camera
to the top of the mast and could not believe that the main halyard was twisted
within the topping lift line. How in the world this happened is a mystery to us.
We lost a lot of time trying to deal with the problem. Stewart began briefing me
on how I was going to put him up the mast once we reached the marina harbour,
most likely around dusk. I was not pleased by the procedure and began preparing
my mind for me to go up the mast. I had tried this once in Carriacou and only
made it half way for fear of the heights. As we got closer to the harbour I was
feeling more dread than inspiration. As I looked to the top of the mast suddenly
the knotted lines began to unwind! A beautiful sight for sore eyes. I leapt into
action and began bringing the main sail down, safe and sound. What a tremendous
relief. We motor sailed with the jib into the harbour, dropped anchor and truly
enjoyed a relaxing dinner.
We are now berthed in Marina Santa Marta, E23. I took a brisk walk on the
promenade this afternoon, the heat was nearly unbearable so we will try later
after the sun has set.
Currently we are unable to connect to the marina wifi so I am using the
satellite phone until that problem is sorted.
All is well
