Finally, the weather arrived. Overnight it was
showers and a fair old chop - over 30 knots at one point in a confused sea. We
could make out a few huge storms far off with violent bursts of lightening. Not
entirely sure about boats and lightening and there was a moment when I was about
to muster everybody on deck in their oilskins and lifejackets but the storms
stayed at a distance. Meanwhile, we reefed and raced through the night - nearly
9 knots boat speed once or twice - but sleep was thin on the ground. First thing
this morning, there was a rainbow in front us. Today seas have been more benign
and the wind an even 20 knots from the north. We've been making steady
progress since. We made first stab at fishing and caught a dorado which got away
- shameful lack of preparedness in the cockpit, I'm afraid. Dolphins
visited later. Rhidian now in the galley, Colin asleep, Kit reading about
Francis Ford Coppola and dreaming of being a film director. Hope we have a more
settled night. TK
