The day started with a Petanque tournament, but we thought we'd save ourselves for the main event - the carnival which was due to start at 4.00 pm.  Needless to say, it was nearer 5!   The whole town takes part, with the "youth" wandering around town with an odd assortment of "fancy dress" - the common theme being red and white woollen leggings, one worn at ankle and the other full length.   They congregate near the church, then process at a leisurely fashion through the town, with big gaps between the bands.  The instruments and sound being very similar! Bathgate gala day it ain't....

The festivities continued until dawn, but we had to leave them to enjoy themselves by themselves - darkness beckons at about 6.15 here and we'd forgotten the headtorch.....

Trip to Forte de France today, but it’s a bit more overcast than it has been, so hoping for a dry journey over to catch the ferry.
