We crossed the finish line at latitude 18 degrees 18 minutes at exactly 0543
after the 1345 Nm passage from the USA. It was not the most skilful last 15
Nm because we had to tack twice. I was aware for days that we needed to get
more east but kept deferring the needed tack in hope the wind would back to
permit a more easterly course without the need to tack at all. This never
happened. After crossing the line it was motor for an hour to Nanny Cay
marina and to our rum punch that was duly served immediately dock lines and
electricity were in place. That was the fatal attraction that took us to
Tortola rather than Antigua. In any event we struggled through the day then
slept deeply. Petri left us for the airport within hours.
We are feeling pleased to have finished the ARC 1500. However, I have to
tell dear readers that the ARC finish excitement was actually trumped! No,
nothing to do with Donald. Something completely different!
We received the exciting news that our dear daughter, Rachael, was now
engaged to be married to boyfriend Adam! Adam had carefully planned his
moment to ask Rachael's hand in marriage. She said "yes". The ring was for
us to see on Facetime to prove the story true! Helen and I can't wait to
return home as must surely be obvious. We have grown to like Adam very much
and are delighted that that he is to become our son-in-law. We have no doubt
that the happy couple are going to have a wonderful life together. So it is
that our lives, and that of Rachael and Adam, start new chapters in
preparation for the Big Day on a date to be decided.
We plan to leave Tortola in the next few days for a 320Nm passage to St
Lucia. To be continued.....
