Day 5 - Safely arrived in Bermuda! After being guided by
the very helpful Bermudan Radio staff through the very narrow "one-way"
channel into St George's Harbour (whilst being overtaken by a speeding
ferry!) we tied up to the Custom's dock yesterday afternoon. Once we had shown
and completed all of the required paperwork for all of the "Four Salty
Sea Dogs", we anchored closed by and just off the town. It's nice change to be
amongst boats again from all corners of the globe and not just from
America! Flags seen so far include British, French, Dutch, Swiss, Finnish,
Swedish, Polish and Australian - Bermuda is quite an ocean
crossroads! It's been British since a ship, the "Sea Venture", from
the British "Virginia Company" was deliberately run aground (saving
all 150 crew/ passengers and one dog!) here during a storm in 1609
whilst en-route to the first British colony in America, Jamestown in Virginia.
Apparently, accounts of this inspired Shakespeare's "The
Tempest".
