Friends,
We are safely tucked into St George's harbour at
anchor and awaiting the next weather window. Might be a few days. Winds have
been 25-35 from the E for the last two days and will turn more southerly over
the next few which will inhibit our progress south. Tortola is almost due
south of us here. We have taken over as fleet communicator with a good SSB
signal. Several other boats remain at sea and several are due in today. One boat
has been abandoned and the crew rescued by tanker. All are safe and due in
Bermuda today. Another boat has a fouled prop and is drifting until the winds
diminish and she can make way by sail. Another two boats are hove to awaiting
abating winds. This is the weather we saw coming and were fortunate enough to
have made good time and arrive here before it hit. We were first to arrive
out of the fleet and feel very lucky to have avoided "the weather". We are
getting together tonight for a fish fry at the local yacht club so will
hear more of the war stories. Eva arrived on time Saturday and has taken over
galley and organisational duties. Yeah. We are off to be tourists today - taking
local busses and taking in the sights. Weather here is still strong winds,
showers but warm. Oooops - forgot to mention the great crew, Jim, Melissa,
Austin and Eva. All happy and off to tour the
island......
