Vanuatu - Efate

Between the 9^th and 14^th of May we explored three of the islands of Vanuatu, dodging the rain showers and making the most of sunny intervals. We were taken on an island tour of Efate, visited the blue lagoon and spent time in a local village. We had to approach the village with large leaf fronds in our hands denoting that we came in peace, we were shocked to be ambushed by shouting tribesmen but the chief welcomed us and they danced to welcome us. The chief showed us the traps he used   to catch wild pig and chicken and we leant to cook leaf parcels of vegetables using hot stones. It was without doubt the most authentic visit we have made in the Pacific; the people were generous and gentle and showed us their customs with pride.
