Left Bora in a hurry

After a short stay we had to leave Bora Bora in a hurry as our prop shaft seal was dripping dramatically and the seal (we had a spare fitted on the shaft) had to be changed... ideally out of the water. So instead of anchoring off in the south of Bora Bora and enjoying more swimming and relaxing, it was decided to beat to windward and back to the marina at Raiatea for emergency repairs. Within 3hrs of picking up a mooring buoy, moving Kahia to the marina dock and help from the marine engineers we had the new one fitted while still in the water, saving a small fortune. Another day of obtaining fittings and working on the engine resulted in improving the water flow to the `Sure-seal ` from the engine cooling water, the lack of which was the cause of the seal failure. A short stay in Bora but a lovely one! Kahia in the distance the only boat at anchor here |
