The markets in Cadiz
Yesterday I was determined to make it to the central food market here in Cadiz. It is primarily open only in the morning and is a feast for all the senses.

Numerous fish vendors, all with an array of beautifully displayed fresh catches; fruit and veg stalls, full of colour and produce of all sorts; butchers shops with fresh meat, some recognisable and some not so much; and then around the sides of the market the stalls of deli meats, cheeses, olives, breads and other deliciousness.

My tactic for foreign market shopping tends to be the same wherever I am… it takes a while and my “bag man” keeps his counsel and his patience!

I take a good look round, soaking up the atmosphere, enjoying the displays, listen to the banter back and forth between stall-holders and customers, take some photographs, check out prices: and then when I’m ready to buy I tend to return to those where I like the look of the produce and  I have seen folk prepared to queue and wait their turn… as Nigel commented… it’s as good a logic as any when visiting somewhere new!

It always reminds me so much of the days when I was a child and would accompany my Nana to “Newcastle Big Market”.  Sights, smells and sounds of local life and commerce.
