Exploring Baia Ribeira

5th April 2011 Exploring Baia Ribeira We have been at Iate Clube Angra dos Reis for 4 days. On Saturday we woke to another beautiful day and decided to explore the rest of Northern Baia Ribeira. The pictures shall speak for themselves it was an awesome day. Cruising slowly along the coast we discovered some beautiful homes set on their private beaches. The one had a waterfall cascading into a natural pool then into the sea. We are going to explore that today. The next had its own yacht anchored outside and what a beauty. She is called “Tigre” made of wood and very obviously loved. Praia de Paqueta was our next stop. A beautiful beach; very popular on the weekends, full of boats. We snorkelled form the boat to the beach then walked across the beach about 20 meters across the island and snorkelled on the sea side of the island. The water on top was warm as bathwater and the visibility wasn’t perfect. But when you dived down to about 5 meters the water was cold and fresh and visibility about 5 meters. At lunch time a restaurant came motoring up to the anchorage, complete with table waitresses and all. They proceded to achore and set up and the boats soon started rafting up against them to get lunch. A whole new meaning to “road house” of old. We have yet to snorkel and not see Turtles. The seas are so clean considering the number of people. The Brazilians are really good about litter. Refuse bins are used and nothing is thrown into the sea. From there we sailed around another popular anchorage, Ilha de Itanhanga. We are going back there today. We then discovered another small yacht club and went ashore. We met Flavio and Vanessa. They told us it was maintained by the employees of the Nuclear Power plant nearby and mainly frequented by them A very pretty setting with a river running into the sea. That evening we braaied on Yacht Isa in the rain. J Yesterday we had to go to Angra to sign the boat out. Here you have to sign in and out of very province and we are setting off for Parati today. More news from there. |
