Quite a busy
anchorage as it offers very good shelter from the Meltemi which had just started
to build again and was forecast to blow quite strong in a day or
two.
Very dramatic
with high hills surrounding it and a resort at the head and suspiciously looking
dutch windmill houses on the sea-side headland.
Swimming and a
long, late lunch in ideallic conditions followed by an early night as tomorrow
is planned for a race-day up the coast to the town.
As I'd been on
board now for a week with a boat load of strangers, some stranger than others,
and a couple just simply difficult and not much of a pleasure to be around, I
decided I needed time ashore, and a long walk to stretch the legs. A small
church high on a lone hill, a couple of miles almost straight-up looked like an
enticing solution. I tossed the idea to Carol who looked to be about the
only one of the mob who was fit enough for a challenging hike, and also fun
company, and she jumped at the idea - well almost, I could sense a certain
amount of reservation. Whether that be the challenging nature of the goal, or
spending time with the grumpy Captain I wasn't sure... So an early night as I
wanted to leave at about 5am to do the hike without the Meditteranean sun
boiling us and also to aim to be at the top in time for
sunrise.
