So after 27 days we arrived in Hiva Oa. We had very little wind for the
last 5 days and had to motor. Luckily we had lots of diesel as we had
planned for no wind at the start.
We are in an anchorage were we know 5 other boats out of 15. The same
people are traveling the same route as us. We say hi & goodbye &
then meet up again in a month or so in another bay. Harry & Sarah on
Lady Annabel are also sailing an Amel like mine. I first met them in Gocek
in Turkey. We’ve met in Spain, St. Lucia, Panama & now Hiva Oa.
It’s really nice to meet up with people you know in strange places.
Today we hope to check in with the local agent. Currently we are
still flying our yellow Q flag to say we have not cleared customs. It’s
very laid back & nobody is worried.
Once checked in we plan on going to the Isle of Tahuata where there is a
bay with good snorkelling & possibly diving. We will also clean the
bottom of the boat as it is covered with sea life. I thought it was just
my anti-fouling but it sounds like everyone has the same problem.
We still have lots of food on board but have stocked up with local fresh
salad & veg. We were lucky as 2 supply boats came in just before we
arrived. It now looks like there will not be any fresh food on the island
for a week or so.
The next few days will be exploring Hiva Oa & then off to Nuku
Hiva.
