Here's an update on the game of chess we've been playing...
We had some real-time action last night when another boat (Desna?) passed
behind us on the opposite tack (heading south). We've been gybing a lot
recently, and doing it in the dark certainly requires a good deal more
concentration.
With a trough of low pressure coming up where we expect very light winds, we
know that Nisida are 30 miles ahead and a couple of other boats, including
Fair Do's VII are to the south and east of us. All in, a bit of a lottery as
to what'll happen through this patch but that rather depends on how noisy
the other watch are with their trimming and grinding... Our aim is to come
out the other side still in contention, as the other boats are all rated
higher than us so give us time at the end.
In other news, a few of the crew are sporting lifejacket bikini lines.
George was the first to show us this new look and quite a few of us have
followed suit. Mike's the latest victim.
On the food front, there are now only three types of Wayfarer meal that I
haven't tried: The 'All day breakfast' (descriptions of the omelette made it
sound pretty dodgy), Chilli con carne (there aren't many of these and
they're a boat favourite so I haven't been quick enough to get one yet) and
lastly beef stew & dumplings (descriptions of dumpling throwing contests
last year mean I've avoided them so far).
Our watch (Jo, Mike, fully-clothed Sebastian and me) have come up with a
cunning plan to get more sleep. Every other day we let one person sleep
through the 1am-4am watch to give them 9 hours of uninterrupted (well, sort
of) sleep. Jo and Sebi have had the long sleep already and tonight will be
my turn and I'm looking forward to it!
Two people are still yet to wash!
