Delta!
We're all recovering
from our adventure now and readying Now 3 for the next leg of the trip. The
conversations with all the other boats have been great fun and helped us relive
our last 3 weeks. Everyone has their own stories of ripped sails, broken parts
and freezers packing in. One boat lost their spinnaker and it disappeared under
their boat and wrapped itself around the propeller and drive shaft. When they
crossed the finish line they had to anchor up in Rodney Bay as they could not
motor into the marina! They were towed in the next morning.
The morning was
spent finishing the cleaning and odd maintenance jobs. We employed two local
boat men Alby and Elvis to polish the boat up and buff out any scratches. They
were good lads but chancres as ever, loading on the costs and scrounging
whenever they could.
Lunch was at
Scuttlebutts and as Carib (the local beer) was on special offer we soon had
buckets of it flowing again!! So lunch became a long lunch and eventually a
relaxing afternoon session!
Tom Jnr. arrived
early evening after having a 2 hour delay to his flight from Gatwick. He is
joining us in our sail up to Antigua for the next week.
You may have read in
one of our earlier logs that we had a great night out in Gran Canaria with the
crew form the boat Spirit of Juno who are the Ex-Servicemen amputee crew. They
drank us all under the table in the Match Bar one night and put a new
perspective on being legless to us! Most of these guys have lost limbs
serving our country in one way or another, they were due to arrive in at 19.00
and we were keen to be there to welcome them. Tom Piped them into
their berth and a big crowd applauded as they tied up. As anticipated the first
words out of their mouth's were "Where's The Bar!"
We had a slow
evening meal at the Bosons Bar and by 10.30pm most of us were ready for an early
night. Suddenly the barman came over with 6 flaming kittens andafter downing
these we were off again
It was back to Scuttlebutts to see if we could meet up
with the Juno crew for a night cap but what we encountered was Tropical
Drinking Session Delta. The guys were pleased to see us again and were full of
stories. Every time we tried to sneak back to the boat more bottles of beer
would arrive and we ended up having a fantastic night with some of the greatest
guys in the ARC event.
Nowcrew out.
