A night to forget last night. We were forecast
moderate winds and ended up with a 30 knot howler!! The conditions were
and remain very uncomfortable. If the storm coming into Aruba was the "hit
single", last night we had the double album, plus bonus tracks!!
We still have around18 knots and a large swell. At
present we have given up trying to make progress to the west because we are
being forced north by the WSW wind. The weather files show us we are in for a
continued beating if we continued west so we have tacked and will sail
south until at least one degree above the equator before turning west again and
hopefully a leisurely sail to the islands.
Mojo 2 has coped with the conditions very well over
this long 24 hour period.
Nearly wore a flying fish in the face at dusk
yesterday. Dean and I were at the helm station when a figure loomed out of the
gloom at speed. It flew from above the starboard bow straight over the top of my
head and clipped it on the way past. Could have been very nasty for both fish
and human but both escaped unscathed.
Jane fed the fish late today but you could hardly
blame her with the conditions we were in.I'm sure she will be fine as we hit
calmer seas. We are all ready for this wind to abate but it is yet to give
us some respite.
We still have around 400NM to go before we reach
Galapagos but we are not counting down yet.
