Left Ayamonte 09.30 Spanish time, down river with the last of the tide, again a long sunny motoring trip over to Sanlucar de Barrameda. We had great fishing on the way, catching a striped tuna, then a very long, thin fish with a long thin mouth (which I knocked off the hook into the sea, dead, as I dispatched it with the Navtec handle). Then Doug started catching big mackerel with the little spinning rod, landing three. We went what seemed a long way up the Guadalquivir in the dark up a well marked channel and anchored on the first bend, opposite Bolonia. Sanlucar has a wee bit of history, being the starting-off port for both Columbus and Magellan, and the returning port for Juan Sebastian Elcano, the only one of Magellan’s five ships to make it home. He was the first circumnavigator of the world.
