30 November

We’ve had a fairly slow and very hot day today. We tried a couple of times to head more west, but the light NNE winds would not let us. We could jybe to starboard, raise the kite and be pushed to far south, or harden up and find ourselves too far North, where even lighter winds loom.

We held on, and got our reward at around 18:00. The wind veered and we put ourselves onto a broad reach, with St. Lucia bang on the nose. We believe we have just found the northern limits of the trades. In a couple of hundred miles we will reach 20 degrees North. Below there we understand the trades are blowing hard.

One of today’s pics is me (Brian). Aside from sailing, my job is IT, comms and photographer. As the latter, it’s easy for no pics of me to appear, so here’s one to prove I was actually here!

We had another ‘the one that got away’ fish moment today. Richard got a nice mahi mahi out of the water, but not on deck. Lot’s of excitement, but no reward. Bruce has just made up for it by landing a modest but beautiful example of the same fish. I had the honour of administering the Lewmar kiss (smashing it on the head with a Lewmar winch handle!). Hunter-gatherer instincts fulfilled we press on into the sunset, the boat beautifully balanced and 2000 miles of ocean ahead…..
