Log Day 01 - All Aboard (Including Our Friendly Minibus Drivers)

Sunday morning's events left us in turmoil. Colin
was going home (for a rest) so Judy rushed up to the ARC Office around 10am
and after a conversation with Adam Gosling and Nick from WCC (World Cruising
Club), we made contact with Georg and Tara the minibus drivers to see if they
wanted to join our crew!
After "buy in" from our crew, Georg and Tara had
one hour to get all of their gear, check out of their guest house, get onto our
crew list and be on board.
It was so exciting- bands playing up and down the
pontoons, music and fan fare all around us as we made our way out
of the marina towards the starting line. Can you imagine 239 participating
yachts together with spectator boats and crowds of people on the shoreline? The
starting line was drawn from the Naval Ship, Vencedora, and we took it easy
crossing the line. We put up our Spinnaker about half an hour later, and it
wasn't long before it seemed as though we left the majority of the cruising
class boats behind us! By the light of the full moon at the end of the
night we could see there were only about a dozen of the original 239 boats
around us.
How wondrous to be sailing across the ocean under a
full moon, a clear sky and a starry, starry night!
