It has been a very pleasant and interesting few
days in New York. Thanks to local friends we had the great chance and privilege
to visit the exclusives Explorer's Club and New York Yacht Club. As its
name indicates, the first one is the club to which belong all the great
explorers of the world from the ones having climbed the highest mountains to the
astronauts. Fantastic building with European carved oak panelling
throughout and beautiful collections. The NY Yacht Club has an amazing "models
room" and an interesting Library where Mike found the register which
recorded his father's boat, mentioning his name as owner and the details of the
boat.
We also visited the Flick Collection. That's was
something else! It is a private collection exhibited in the private home of Mr
Flick (Steel Magnate in his time) now a museum. The house itself was well worth
the visit but the amount of Rembrandt (including the Polish Rider), Turner,
Constable, Van Dijck etc was
exceptional.
We will leave NY tomorrow morning and head for
Larchmont on the North shore of Long Island Sound. We will take our time
exploring the Sound and eventually get to Newport in probably about 4 days
time.
Weather beautiful. Yesterday we had heavy
thunderstorms in the afternoon but we seem to escape them today. Temperature is
very pleasant. Especially after the unbearable heat of Florida!
Mike's foot is mending slowly. Still hurts but then
again, as usual, he doesn't rest it enough.
Bernie will be leaving us tomorrow to go back home
to sunny Scotland. He has been a fantastic friend and we can't thank him enough
for his invaluable help.
Attached photos of Jay, the best looking Grandson
in the world! Don't you agree?
Keep sending us your news!
love
Catxxx and Mike
