I'm sorry my reports and GMT noon positions are
getting late but it is an evening job for me after I've eaten and cleaned up.
Now I am on USA time i.e. GMT -5 hours so I am six hours after BST which means
midnight with you is only 6pm with me. Except of course those in Oz, who I know
are following me, I'm halfway nearer them.
I ran out of powdered milk yesterday which I use
for my daily dose of porridge, Pretty seriousI think! I do have a small
supply of long life milk which I hope will get me to Newport. I was sure I
had another cartyon in my dry locker, but no! My only frwesh veg is potatoes,
onions and a bit of cabbage, all in good condition.
I have been experiencing some very strange
influences from the streams that are running under me. Needless to say the
wind is ahead coming straight out of Newport but as I have tacked throughout the
day on some legs I have been helped by the stream i.e. going faster over the
ground than I am through the water on others I struggle to make progress.
The wind is not doing anything like what was forecast for the last two days. Its
the first time I have found the Ugrib forecasts so inaccurate. Having said
all that the day developed into a beautiful cold clear day blowing us gently to
windward and even though we are beating it was very pleasant. The sunset
was magnificent, I watched the sun touch the sea and then slowly slip
below the horizon. All the western sky was glowing red.
The water temperature changed quite suddenly
yesterday, I'm not quite sure when, but I have two log entries 20 miles apart
and the sea temperature went from 24.8 degrees C to 13.4. The coldness
drew my attention to it. The cold water is coming down from Labrador
to join the Gulf Stream. And that's another thing the colour of the
wateris quite different and it is not the sky colur that does it. On a blue sky
day, so comparing like for like, the GS sea colour is a deep blue whereas
the cold Labrador stream is quite3 green.
You'll gather from my typing we are bouncing about
a bit, the wind seems to be pickingf up, she's started to slam no and
then
Not far now but can't say how long cos the weather
gods won't tell me what they are going to send, even the forecasters deon't
know!!!!.
