Hi from El Jadida
On Tuesday we took a train to Marrakech three
and a half hours passing fairly flat brown terrain. Alot of it seemed to be
tilled ready for planting whenever rain might come. Very little green except
where looked after in little residential plots. Marrakech was teaming and we
started out in a huge square with various souks radiating out from it and in it.
Hopefully photos to accompany this.
Everyone anxious to get you into their shop. Fruit nuts spices silver lamps leather etc. We had a meal in the square al fresco and then continued to investigate the myriad of alleyways all lined with stalls & shops. The people are friendly and well up for a bit of craic and banter. Wednesday started with a swim at our Hotel and
then back into the centre with a friendly taxi driver who acted as a guide
and took us specifically to a few areas we were keen to see. The tannery area
was the first port of call and we were each given a large bunch of mint to
mitigate the smell!! All very interesting seeing the process of turning the
smelly hide arriving by carts, to being prepared, stained, and then into the
finished product.
Back by train in the evening and we left Mahommedia
at 1 AM heading for El Jadida. Motored until 5 when engine was turned off and we
enjoyed a good sail even trying out the spinnaker before arriving in early
afternoon. Had a meal on board of tuna which we bought from a local fisherman
and necessitated a visit to his house for some mint tea (a bit like the tea in
the west Jill). James has turned into a master chef -- Jamie O eat your heart
out. Sea food chowder with squid and other local souk ingredients -- Moroccan
magic!!
Today Friday we plan to leave here this evening to
arrive into Essaouira in the morning for a 24 hour stop before heading for
Playa Blanca in the south of Lanzarote.
Officialdom not to onerous,Weather has been cloudy
and not too hot. More sun yesterday and today. Will investigatd town shortly and
send this.
From us all
