I consulted troubleshooting in our thick John Deere manual and made an engine control without any adverse findings.
From the manual under "engine loosing power" the suggestions were faulty turbocharger, valves in need of adjustment (more than 3000hrs ago for Dora Mac),some very unlikely causes and clogged fuelfilters. Since the Racor prefilter was recently replaced without any dirt it seemed unlikely.
The question now was if we needed to alter course and head for Cadiz 30Nm to the east or if we could manage to Faro (where our flights were departing in a couple of days).
We decided to head on for Faro and once in protection inside Cabo de Santa Maria, drop anchor and replace the 2 fuelfilters on John Deere (the only thing we could manage ourselves).
If that didn´t help us out we would need assistance from some shipyard in Faro. The night continued under 1400rpm´s and slightly over 5kts but after sunrise we could only reach 1300rpm and due to a countercurrent we were only doing 4,2kts.
Once reaching Cabo de Santa Maria and the entrance to Canal de Faro we were lucky to have slackwater (the tidal stream runs strong here) and dropped anchor just north of the fairway in protection of a sandbank.
Now within internet range I got in contact with Bruce´s Shipyard. They advised us to try the fuel filter change as planned and if not working they were ready to assist.
