We have arrived in
Bermuda. And a lovely place it is. We got in late Wed night and had to stay at
anchour as we could not clear customs. The entrance into St. Georges on the NE
tip of Bermuda is a very small cut, about 80m wide. Well seemed small at night,
and then small until you see a cruise ship go through it with only meters on
each side.
The next day we had
to berth alongside the dock top clear customs. In the afternoon we sailed an
hour round to Ireland Island, where Shell has a fueling depot. This saved us
thousands of $ in fuel and as it turned out, it was the best easiest refueling
we have done so far, with a nice clean straight concrete dock to go alongside
on.
Then we headed back
to St. Georges to clear out again, but found we had lost all our fresh water
mysteriously. We found the error in our system and went to make more water, but
our water maker broke also. This is the 2nd one as the 1st one broke days ago.
So we went back to the dock and got a water truck in to fill our tanks. Now we
have full tanks and 1 fixed watermaker. A few hours off this morning to see some
sights, and we will be on our way today at 1600.
1,850 miles to
Horta, Azores, our next landfall, and again a fuel stop. Even running very
slowly, we burn lots of fuel. At 12 knots we seem to go through about 170 liters
an hour. That's ok.
Love to
all.
