Port Arthur Discoveries Port Arthur as a village is dead and boring. We tried to walk around and got nowhere. Just roads and empty Summerhouses. There is though, another side to PA. The Port Arthur Historic Site is part of the Australian Convicts Sites World Heritage properties. The penal station was established in 1830 as a timber-getting convict camp. By 1840 more than 2000 convicts, soldiers and civil staff lived at Port Arthur among settlers and farmers. At this time the settlement established itself as major industrial center, using convict labour. Boys Island (Prision) |
