Good Evening,
I am blogging from Weymouth, hopefully on the
satellite phone as they want money for the 6 wi-fi networks in the Harbour. If
you can read this then the Satellite Phone has worked OK from the boat for the
first time. I got rid of Norton AV and this allowed blogging from the harbour
wi-fis so I hope that has solved the sat pohone prob as well.
Firstly, apologies for the intemperate language of
ther last blog - I blame Richard & Peter who encouraged me to be
profane! Carol says I shouldn't. Rozie wants more slander, so here goes
treading the narrow line between sense and nonsense...
Great sail from Lymington. We watered and fuelled
by 8.30 and motored out into the placid Solent to pick up the ebb tide.We
got into a steady drift past Hurst Castle into the North Channel, picking up sea
breeze from NE. Then we made course for Durlston Head bypassing
Bournemouth, Polle, Swanage and Strudland to make St Alban's Head as the tide
turned. Fishing over the stern was not very hopeful except when our speed
dropped below 2 knots. We got a run off St Alban's just as the Range safety Boat
came to stop us getting fired on. The reel that Patrick gave me whizzed out...
and broke as I tried to reel in. So some [poor fish is struggling about with a
string of feathers and a 50 gm weight attached. Shame.
We had to make a westerly course to avoid the
Lulworth range but we saw no shells. Just about then a badly tied fender fell
over the stern but Richard judged it would be difficult to recover so we left
it. Poor Bernard gets the bill for a bad knot!Motor sailing into Weymouth over a
flat blue sea which merged into a pure blue sky was nearly pure joy,
but better to sail sweetly and silently as we had earlier in the
day.
We were 11 hr 15 mins at sea, engine 5 hr 11 min
and distance 40.5 nautical miles. We planned tomorrows rounding of Portland Bill
inshore and went off to The George for a pint and dinner, the Yacht Club being
shut. Provisions from Tescos bought & stored for tomorrow's long haul to
Torquay, we think.
