Blog nr.15 from California Blue - 300 Miles to go!  10/12-07

Hello Everyone,

Day 15. At the time of this writing - 18:30  UTC we are at position 15.06.96 N  55.53.26 W  and have approximately 300 nm to St. Lucia.

Our current heading is 265 T degrees, which if the wind speed remains constant will get us into the marina at Rodney Bay on Wednesday December 12th sometime around mid-afternoon local time.

Not sure where we are rank in the ARC fleet progress but we hope to finish in the top 100, having completed the rally in 17 days. Had the winds been kinder we would have done it in 15 days. Better luck next time right? Umm, not sure about that one.

Jayson worked on our arrival plan and various pre-arrival tasks. Mark had the pleasure of fixing the head in the master cabin - a hot and smelly job indeed!  The boys did some reading and then got innovative and had a paper airplane contest with Uncle Jayson. There is still a bit of debate as to who actually won. But they all enjoyed themselves.

The boys also got to surf the internet on our BGAN system and check out what was going on with the Lakers.

Mark had one last attempt at fishing and claims to have had a mighty tuna on the line however in the end it got away - see action photos  :(

The Parasailor is back in business today. We raised it about 10:00 UTC today after an evening of light winds last night. We are currently averaging  7 knots of speed and dare I say no squalls in sight. If the winds stay constant after sunset (now about 22:00 UTC) we will keep it flying thru the night to maximize the number of miles sailed today.

The weather has changed and it is now several degrees warmer  - about 30 Celsius and less stormy. Because we have sailed so far west, we are approaching a full 4 hours time difference from UTC. As a result first light isn't until about 09:30 UTC and sunrise is about 10:00. The time difference is certainly going to impact us upon arrival as ships time is UTC time so we will have to adjust to these 4 hours.

Dinner tonight is burritos. We are getting to the bottom of our supplies now and have just about enough food to last us until arrival on the 12th.

Last but not least I couldn't handle the bearded look any longer and finally thru in the towel and shaved it all off today. Gee all the fun we have on board right?

Well that's all for today. Sorry that we don't have any fish pictures to show yet. We will give it one last try tomorrow. Vic says he has a secret weapon lure we are going to try.

Take care,

Mark and the crew of California Blue
