We’re at 26 37 N / 122 37w or about 400 miles from shore and equidistant from San Francisco and Cabo San Lucas. The wind and seas have been very light so progress is slow. We should get across the pacific high by tomorrow night and into the trade winds. We have been trying to makes some extra time by catching a ride on the few passing squalls. These are tiny rain storms just a couple of miles in diameter that result from a dying cumulous cloud dropping back down. The wind blows maybe 25 knots and you can ride them for a couple of hours although an hour this morning was our best ride and we clocked our record 9.4 knots! Now we’re back to making 3.5…

We have three fishing lines in the water. Two “meat lines” with artificial colorful squid lures on them about 50 feet back from the boat. Then we have a spoon on a weight and leader from our rod further back. We’ve been fishing steady for three days and no action yet. We did see a sea turtle yesterday and a single little sea bird, but remarkably little wildlife has been spotted. The squalls and sunsets are the only thing to break the consistent blue water.
