We arrived in Ronne Harbour on the island of Bornholm at 00.30 and tied to
a buoy at stern and the bow to the quay - which was a first. This is the main
harbour for Bornholm where all the ferries and fishing boats are braced and we
will be sheltered before the very strong easterlies that are promised over the
next few days to hit us. We were, however, treated to a fantastic light show in
the form of a massive electric storm with fork and sheet lightening over the
German mainland. Concerned at its potential approach we quickly developed an
emergency plan of clambering onto the saloon table away from any electrical and
metal components.
As we were about 2 hours out of Schilksee marine, Keith spotted a large
marker buoy unlit in the dark, which we could have hit it.
It was a frustrating trip as the 1/2 a boaty (local currency for the
minimum charge for a yacht) spent on the auto-pilot repair was wasted as they
seem to have caused more problems than they managed to solve. We may have to
resort to rewiring the navigation instruments, calibrating the gyro
compass and alter the rudder response too, but first its got to be “beer
O’clock”. CC (Captain Col) had to go up the mast to replace the steaming light
that had blown. Apart from that Alloro is well.
The sailing was good with at times gull-winged, then beam reach which gave
us speeds of up to 8.5kn. The sea state was rather benign as there is very
little tide.
ARC have arranged a barbeque for this evening with everyone bringing food
to cook and share.
